DESALCOTT Working To Bring Back Up Contracted Supply Amid Dry Conditions

The Desalination Company of Trinidad and Tobago is experiencing challenges in producing the contracted 40 million gallons of water per day.

This situation is cited by DESALCOTT due to the dry conditions.

Once the company is able to return to its contracted amount of water on a daily basis production levels will be further increased.

Minister of Public Utilities, Marvin Gonzales, provided the update in the parliament on Wednesday.

He was asked by the Opposition in light of the water challenges in several parts of the country owing to depleted capacity at the nation’s reservoirs and dams, will DESALCOTT be mandated to increase production to bring immediate relief to citizens.

In his response, Minister Gonzales explained government is in discussions with the company which has indicated it will step increased production beyond the contracted amount required.

He said an additional move has also been taken by the government to engage the services of the Seven Seeds Desalination Company in Point Fortin which has said it will increase its water production levels by 300,000 gallons on a daily basis.
