Defending CPL Champions Trinbago Knight Riders Fall Nine Runs Short In Opening Match.

Not the kind of result Trinbago Knight Riders wanted in the start of their defense of the Caribbean Premier League T20 title today.

T.K.R. lost by nine runs in the opening CPL match against arch rivals Guyana Amazon Warriors at Warner Park in St Kitts.

T.K.R. won the toss and elected to field first and restricted Guyana Amazon Warriors to 142 for 7 off the allotted twenty overs.

Shimron Hetmyer top scored with fifty-four runs from forty-one balls.

His innings included four boundaries and two sixes.

Bowling for T.K.R., Spinners Sunil Narine and Akeal Hosein lead the way with figures of four overs, two wickets for seventeen runs.

Set 143 to win, T.K.R. reached 133 for 9 off their twenty overs losing wickets at regular intervals in their run chase.

Looking at the score card, Dinesh Ramdin, top scored with 28 runs from 25 balls, hitting two boundaries and one six at the crease.

Akeal Hosein also provided some resistance in the lower order with 22 not out which included three sixes.

Lendl Simmons 20 and Tim Siefert 23 were the other main contributors for T.K.R.

Right arm medium bowler, Odean Smith, was named player of the match.

He took two wickets for ten runs from two overs for Guyana Amazon Warriors.

Right arm medium bowler, Romario Shepherd, also was also useful for the Warriors bowling attack taking three wickets for 15 runs from 3 overs.

Imran Tahir was also among the wickets with figures of 2 wickets for 12 runs from four overs.

Tomorrow at 7pm, T.K.R. will be hoping for a better result when they come up against Barbados Royals at the same venue.
