Cops detain robbery suspect after chase in POS

Police arrested one robbery suspect in Port of Spain following a chase on the Wednesday 29th November, 2023.

While on mobile patrol in the vicinity of Republic Bank Independence Square, Port of Spain around 10:30 pm, Cpl Gonzales and PC Deo were approached by a man who reported that he was a victim of a robbery which was still in progress.

The ordeal allegedly began at the Pleasantville, San Fernando home of the victim around 9:00 pm, when two men entered the premises and announced a hold up, before relieving the man of a Samsung cellular phone valued at $4000 and $320 in cash.

The assailants then demanded more money before dealing the victim several blows to his head with a firearm.

The assailants, driving a silver Nissan Wingroad, forcibly took the man to Republic Bank, Independence Square Branch, where they demanded that he withdraw money from his bank account.

The victim then spotted the police patrol and alerted them of what was taking place.

The vehicle with the assailants sped off and the police gave chase and radioed for assistance.

Around 10:40 pm, officers of the Port of Spain Division Task Force, Area East and West and the Inter Agency Task Force (IATF), responded to a transmission requesting assistance.

The vehicle was eventually intercepted heading eastbound along Wrightson Road. A 41-year-old man from Winston Mahabir Street, San Fernando, was arrested and conveyed to the Besson Street Police Station pending further enquiries.
