Chinese national arrested for growing a marijuana tree in a school

A 56-year-old Chinese national areested for the possession of a marijuana plant he began growing on the compound of a secondary school.

According to errors officers of the North Eastern Division Emergency Response Patrol received a report of men allegedly stealing TSTT cables at the Barataria North Secondary School at around 6.30 am on Monday and went to the scene.

After searching the school for the suspect, the officers noticed a marijuana plant growing on the compound.

Officers asked who owned the plant and were told a Chinese man who works as the grounds caretaker.

The man admitted to owning the plant and was then arrested.

He is expected to be charged with possession of marijuana with intent to traffic.
