Chase Village couple robbed while seeking man to purchase car advertised online

Police are continuing to urge the public to meet at a public, well-lit area or at a police station when seeking to conduct any in-person transactions with people they do not know.

This plea comes after a Chase Village couple was robbed in Port of Spain, when they went to meet a stranger they found online to do business.

Police said the 32-year-old man and the 30-year-old woman went to the plannings at the corner of George and Prince Street in Port of Spain, around 2:40 pm on Thursday.

The couple expected to meet a man who advertised a Nissan Wingroad for sale on Facebook marketplace, but were instead confronted by two bandits, one of whom had a gun.

The man was robbed of his cellphone and wedding ring while the woman was robbed of her handbag which contained $4,300 cash.

The bandits left the couple standing on the street as they ran away.
Officers of the Besson Street police station are continuing enquiries.
