Browne: Gov’t contributed to Panday’s trip to Florida preceding his death …

The Government of Trinidad and Tobago contributed to Former Prime Minister Basdeo Panday’s trip to Florida preceding his death.

This is according to Minister of Foreign and Caricom Affairs Dr Amery Browne.

Basdeo Panday died on 1 January 2024 in Jacksonville, Florida at the age of 90.

Mickela, a former Oropouche West MP and the only child to follow in her father’s political footsteps, shared the news with the nation via a Facebook post.

Browne told the Power Breakfast Show this morning that the Government also supported Panday’s treatment while in the United States.

Browne said that it was Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley who made the decision early on after learning of his death, to have a state funeral to honour the late Basdeo Panday.

He said it is very much in keeping with precedence as the same was done for Former Prime Minister the late Patrick Manning.

He also confirmed that the President will speak at Panday’s funeral tomorrow however the Opposition would not have an active role in this regard.

Today Panday was conveyed from DASS Funeral Home in Marabella, to the Southern Academy for the Performing Arts.

He will lie in honor for public viewing until 5:30 p.m. today.
