Former Prime Minister Basdeo Panday says the award of the Petrotrin refinery to the OWTU is of significant importance to the labour movement and the working class. In an exclusive and wide ranging interview with IzzSo media, he said this provides a great opportunity for the OWTU to hold the reigns of power and the heights of the economy and he wishes them success.
He said their greatest challenge will be management and its going to be a hard sell regarding possible conflicts with the OWTU now being owner, management and union at the same time. It said what may arise is other unions rising to negotiate against the OWTU and represent the workers.
