Barrackpore businessman stabs thief with kitchen knife during robbery

Barrackpore police are searching for three men, one of whom is injured, following an incident in which a proprietor fought back during a robbery at his business place, stabbing one of the suspects with a kitchen knife.

The 44-year-old victim was at his business Mels Mark at Cumoto North Road around 7 pm on Wednesday when the three suspects walked in, pretending to be customers. One of the men whipped out a gun and pointed it at the businessman.

The suspects then robbed the businessman of a quantity of cigarettes valued at $3500, a Samsung A34 cellphone valued at $3000 and $2500 in cash.

During the melee, the victim picked up a knife and stabbed one of the bandits three times on his left hand. The suspects then ran off.

Officers of the Barrackpore Police Station and Southern Division Task Force responded and searched for the suspects without success. The police have asked medical institutions to be on the lookout for a man seeking treatment for stab wounds.
