Archbishop urges Catholics to keep crèche up until February 6

As the world celebrates the 800th anniversary of the crèche, Archbishop Jason Gordon is urging communities, families, and churches to leave their crèche up until Friday, February 6 (Feast of the Presentation of The Lord).

The Archbishop made the call during the December 21st Thursday Mass at the Archbishop’s Chapel.

He acknowledged that traditionally, January 6th is the day when many choose to take down their Christmas decorations, including the cherished Nativity scene.

However, he suggested a departure from this practice to honour both the 800th anniversary and the “wonderful event” of the birth of Christ.

“Come together before the crèche. Look at the humility of the Christ child in the manger and spend a little time of prayer there, a couple times between now and when you take it down,” the Archbishop implored.

The Archbishop’s call aligns with the Holy Father’s request for a special meditation on the Nativity scene in homes, families, and churches worldwide.
