Ag CoP Jacob returns from vacation today

After proceeding on 35 days’ vacation leave on December 7, 2022, in the heart of a record high murder toll, Ag Commissioner of Police McDonald Jacob is set to return today.

However, with no word yet on his contract being renewed, there is speculation over his tenure at the helm of the TTPS.

During his time away, acting Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Erla Christopher was appointed to act in his absence.

A Guardian Media report, which quotes a source, said Jacob had effectively been left without an office as he had not received any extension of his acting appointment.
It also added that that Christopher’s 79 days of vacation leave has also been bought out, which effectively means that she will continue to act as CoP until the Police Service Commission announces who has been selected to lead the TTPS.

This announcement is expected to be made within the next two weeks.
