A 90-year-old man in the UK is facing attempted murder charges after stabbing his wife who elbowed him in his back and shouted at him to wake him up.
Edward Turpin said his wife, who is blind, had elbowed him in the back and started screaming for his help to get her something she wanted.
Turpin told a court he stabbed his wife to “quieten her down”.
The prosecutor put it to him that if he wanted to quieten her down, then stabbing her may not have been the best option…to which Mr Turpin replied: “So you’re saying I should have strangled her?”
The couple, who has been married for 60 years, has seemingly patched things up though as the court heard that despite the incident, he still telephones her twice a day.
He added: “I just love my wife and when you get married, for better or for worse, ok if it turns out it’s a bit worse, I’ll carry on.”
