2 soldiers detained for attempting to smuggle contraband into MSP

Two soldiers from the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force are facing charges of smuggling contraband into the Maximum Security Prison in Arouca.

This comes after the two were arrested on Tuesday morning, while allegedly attempting to smuggle in a large quantity of marijuana and several other contraband items.

According to a report by GML, a military warrant officer, class 2, attached to the Special Forces and another warrant officer class 2, attached to Tetron Barracks went to visit three soldiers presently incarcerated at the MSP around 11am.

The soldiers alleged that they were bringing bags of food items from relatives of their jailed colleagues.

However, upon searching the bags, a team of prison officers discovered 1,534 kilograms of compressed marijuana, 290 packs of cigarettes, 10 lighters, three electric pocket scales, one cell phone charger, four packs of razor blades, one cellphone holder, wrapping paper, and other foodstuff items.

The soldiers were later taken into custody and questioned.
