9 cops re-arrested and charged with misbehaviour in public office

After seven of nine Sangre Grande cops were released following allegations of extortion, all nine have been now re-arrested and charged with misbehaviour in public office and attempting to pervert the course of public justice.

The officers were detained by members of the Professional Standards Bureau after they were summoned to a meeting at PSB’s Head Office in Port of Spain on Monday.

The officers were informed that the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) advised that they should be charged with alleged criminal offences.
The officers are represented by attorneys Seana Baboolal, Terry Boyer, Fareed Ali, and Adrian Thompson.

The nine officers were held as part of an investigation into allegations of extortion made by businessmen in the Eastern Division.
