Six Venezuelans held by Coast Guar two miles off Chacachacare

Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard (TTCG) intercepted a vessel two miles off Chacachacare with six male Venezuelan nationals aboard.

On Saturday 13th February, 2021, during a surveillance exercise a forty-foot passenger ferry vessel named Donna Betty was intercepted and escorted to Staubles Bay, Chaguaramas.

Once the vessel and the six crew members arrived at Staubles Bay, officers of the Canine Unit, Western Division Task Force, Western Division Gang Unit, Organised Crime and Intelligence Unit (OCIU) were invited to search the vessels.

The six crew members and the vessel were searched by canine personnel while the OCIU used a camera probe to search the vessel.

Nothing illegal was found.

The men and vessel are expected to be escorted back to Venezuelan waters today by the TTCG.
