Police seize AR-15 and other weapons in ‘Operation Sea Breeze’ in Belmont

An AR-15 semi automatic weapon with two magazines of 50 rounds of 5.56 ammunition was seized by Police with three weapons in an operation called ‘Sea Breeze’ conducted in Belmont over the weekend.

The operation took place between 6 pm Saturday and 2 am Sunday, as a result of information gathered over a period of time.

Police reported that officers went to Pelham Street, Belmont where a search was conducted at a dwelling house. A pistol with one magazine and 16 rounds of 9 mm ammunition was recovered. Police also searched a white Elantra where the AR-15 with two magazines with 50 rounds of 5.56 ammunition was recovered.

A search was also conducted of neighboring St Margaret’s Anglican Cemetery where another weapon, a Smith and Wesson revolver was found within a black bag which was concealed by debris.

Five persons were detained in connection with the find. The exercise was conducted by Senior Supt Brandon John, Snr Supt Subero and Asp Simon and supervised by Asp Ramesar and Sgt Crawford.
