PM Rowley Distances Self, Cabinet From Vicent Nelson Indemnity Issue

Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley is distancing himself and the cabinet from the contentious indemnity issue with King’s Counsel and state witness Vincent Nelson.

Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar called on Dr Rowley to tell the country if he and the Cabinet knew about the indemnity agreement between the Office of the Attorney General and Nelson.

Last month the Director of Public Prosecutions, Roger Gaspard, discontinued criminal charges against former Attorney General, Anand Ramlogan, and former Opposition Senator Gerald Ramdeen.

Speaking at a political meeting of the People’s National Movement on Tuesday night, Prime Minister Rowley made it clear the development was never a matter for the cabinet.

Dr Rowley said an issue of this kind falls under the office of the Attorney General who is in a position to advise the cabinet.
