A Sangre Grande man was knocked down while walking along a roadway in his area on Friday night.
The victim is 58-year-old Aldolphus Martinez of Park Avenue Road 1 Northeastern Settlement, Sangre Grande.
Around 7:45 pm last night, Martinez was walking along Ojoe Road, Sangre Grande when he was hit by a car near lp#38. He died at the scene.
Officers arrived at the scene and interviewed the 42-year-old driver, who was also from Sangre Grande.
He was taken to the Sangre Grande Police Station, however, while recording his statement, the officers said they detected a strong stench of alcohol on his breath. He was then taken to the Tunapuna Police Station where officers there conducted a breathalyzer test.
He was found to be beyond the legal limit.
Officers of the Sangre Grande Police Traffic Branch are continuing enquiries.
