The Opposition on the occasion of Divali 2023 is urging the population to in these trying times of our nation’s existence; persevere in tolerance, unity, togetherness and faith.
It is calling on everyone to use this auspicious occasion to unite and build our country together.
It warns without our continued, beautiful bond of unity, our nation simply cannot progress adding the power lies within us to preserve the democracy for which our fore parents toiled, and that our children will one day inherit.
The Opposition Leader said the traditions and religious significance of Diwali were brought to our country over 170 years ago, by East Indian fore parents, during the Indentureship period.
It has now evolved into a national festival, embraced and celebrated by the majority of citizens, is a testament to Trinidad and Tobago’s global and historic hallmark.
The political party also said millions of people are at war and conflict due to their religious and ethnic differences.
According to the Geneva Academy’s research, in 2023, there are 114 armed conflicts, including some international wars, taking place in our world.
