MoWT working to address next of kin issue which led to Route 2 maxi taxi protest

The Ministry of Works and Transport says it is working to address the next of kin issue, which led to a protest by maxi taxi drivers on Monday.

This is according to a statement by the Ministry after drivers gathered outside its office at the corner of Richmond and London Streets in Port of Spain yesterday.

Route Two maxi taxi drivers are asking for a proper next of kin policy to be implemented, to allow authorisations given to a maxi taxi driver to be passed on to the next relative/kin, in the event of sickness or death.
This, they say will allow the maxi taxi to continue operating via the next of kin.

Spokesperson Brenton Knights says the relatives of many ailing or deceased drivers are struggling and unable to inherit what their loved ones worked hard for.

The Ministry says the matter is before it and it has committed to continuous dialogue for an amicable outcome.
