Mentally unstable man shot dead by police in Cumuto

A mentally unstable man was reportedly shot and killed in a police involved shooting on Friday night.

Shortly after 8pm, officers were called to a house at the 12 1/2 mm Coryal Main Road by a relative who reported that Fustin Augustus was behaving violently.

The relative guided the officers to a room at the side of the house where they interviewed Augustus for a short while before he reportedly began to act violently again.

According to the police report Augustus, charged up to one of the officers and began fighting with him.

During the struggle the officer noticed the wooden handle of a cutlass in Augustus’ pants waist. As Augustus tried to reach for the cutlass he was shot in the chest.

Augustus walked a short distance away and collapsed and died.
