Heightened security for Borough Day celebrations in Point Fortin

Point Fortin Mayor Saleema Thomas has assured that there will be heightened security for this year’s Borough Day celebrations.

She gave the assurance on Friday as Point Fortin came alive for the military parade in celebration of the borough’s 43rd anniversary.

Thomas said security had been beefed up more than in previous years for the celebrations.

The mayor warned any persons who planned to use Point Fortin as a hub for criminal activities this weekend to think again, as there had been an increase in law enforcement in the Borough.

She said: “The strength of the security measures is three times what you are accustomed to over the years and with regards to criminal activities, it is minimal because over the years the highlight of our Borough Day celebrations is persons coming and enjoying themselves.
“We haven’t had any…major criminal activities, so if you have a thought, I think this is not the place and time for that.”
