Five held and quantities of marijuana seized by CID team

Quantities of ammunition and marijuana have been seized by officers of the Criminal Investigations
Department (CID) Operations Team, during anti-crime exercises conducted in the Central and North Eastern Divisions over the weekend.

The team, assisted by members of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and Canine Branch conducted an exercise between 5 am and 9 pm, on Saturday 10th June, 2023.

During the exercise, they proceeded to the Couva district first where they found and seized a quantity of marijuana.

Based on intelligence and information received the officers then proceeded to an apartment building in the North Eastern Division, where they found 2.6 kilogrammes of marijuana.
Further investigations led officers to the Valsayn home of a female suspect, where 45 rounds of 9mm ammunition and a quantity of cocaine were found and seized.

The suspect who was on the premises at the time of the search was arrested in connection with the find.

Three other houses, this time in the San Juan and St. Joseph district were also searched, resulting in the seizure of varying quantities of marijuana and the arrest of four suspects.
Investigations are ongoing into all the above matters.

The exercises were supervised by Snr. Supt. Ramkhelawan and Supt. Pariman.
