Division of Food Security Open To Dialogue Following Concerns From Fisherfolk About Seismic Survey

Open to dialogue and inclusive decision-making.

This is the approach the Division of Food Security, Natural Resources, the Environment, and Sustainable Development says it has adopted amidst concerns raised by fishermen in Tobago about a seismic survey initiated by Woodside.

The seismic survey commenced on November 7 and is set to continue for ten days.

However, the move prompted expressions of worry from various quarters, claiming a lack of communication from the Division.

In response, the Division emphasizes it prioritizes stakeholder engagement and transparency in its decision-making processes.

The Division said a consultation meeting was convened on June 14, 2023, involving Woodside Energy, the Division, and key stakeholders, including representatives from various fishing associations.

This gathering provided an opportunity for stakeholders to be informed about Phase 3 of the Calypso Geophysical and Geotechnical Survey 2023.

Those who participated were duly apprised of the details of the seismic survey.
