New quarantine facility Kapok Hotel being offered to repatriated nationals at a cost

Principal Medical Officer of Facilities at the Ministry of Health, Dr. Maryam Richards has revealed that from Friday 13th November, two new facilities will be added to the 21 already designated for the housing of repatriated nationals.

These two facilities will be the Kapok Hotel and the Tobago Correctional Facility.

These facilities will provide the health sector with an additional 100 beds between them, thus bringing the total number of beds in the parallel health care system to 1,651 and the current occupancy of the system is at 26%.

Dr Richards was asked what these new facilities would cost taxpayers and she revealed that the Kapok Hotel was a facility where those who wish to be quarantined there, have to pay out of their own pockets, minimizing the cost to the state.

She also indicated that the Tobago Correctional Facility was a co-shared facility between the Ministries of Health and National Security and that an update on the cost will be provided at a later date.
