CWU: Firing of 126 Digicel workers unlawful!

General Secretary of the Communication Workers Union Clyde Elder said that he was disturbed to learn that 126 workers were fired from Digicel this morning, and only leant of their impending separation in a meeting on Monday morning.

He told News Power Now this morning that the Company acted in contravention to the law.

He disclosed from what he has learnt of the situation the Company was not only flouting the law but acting in its own interest.

He maintained that firing of the workers was not handled in an upright or legal manner by the Company pointing to the forty five day consultation period that was supposed to be upheld.

He notes that this was an unfortunate trend that has been developing.
