Customs and Excise seized $9M TT in cigarettes and alcohol from a container in Couva

The Customs and Excise Division (CED) have seized large quantities of alcohol and cigarettes at various locations throughout Trinidad, over the past four days.

In a media release issued last evening, CED said on Friday December 23rd, Customs Officers and Guards; acting on intelligence, examined a 40-foot container at the Container Examination Station at Pt. Lisas, Couva.

While conducting examinations, Customs said it discovered 500 cases of the illicit “Carnival Brand Red and Blue King Size” cigarettes and 6000 bottles of Absolut Vodka hidden among household items.

The alleged smuggled items have a combined street value of approximately TT$ Nine Million dollars ($9,000,000.00).

Earlier in the week; on Tuesday (December 20), while conducting routine examinations at a courier bond in the Piarco area, Customs officials discovered four kilograms of a plantlike material resembling marijuana concealed in a portable speaker box with an estimated street value of TT$ One Milion, Two Hundred Thousand dollars ($1,200.000.00).

In all matters, investigations are ongoing and arrests are imminent.
