COP Erla Harewood-Christopher silent after seven months on the job

COP Erla Harewood-Christopher has been largely silent on the seven month anniversary of her tenure as Police Commissioner. Harewood-Christopher has also been silent at the end of June, when she told a JSC National Security that the population could expect reductions in categories of serious crime by the end of June 2023.  Harewood- Christopher later admitted that the targets were not achievable.

Former Police Service Commission Chairman (PolSC) Professor Ramesh Deosaran speaking on Power 102 Digital , Power Breakfast show a few weeks ago also said the COP was too quick to make those kinds of promises and, it would likely be impossible to achieve. In fact with the louder toll in 2022 reaching a grim 605 and the toll at the end of June 2023 approaching 300, it was clear that the police strategies were not bearing the kind of results planned.

The COP has ben silent in the face of brazen murders at Trincity mall carpark, two Saturdays ago , where social media influencer Kevon Ottley was gunned down in broad daylight at 5:00pm in the crowded mall. Also just this weekend another brazen murder where a man was chased by assailants on Saddle road Maraval and murdered in his vehicle.

Earlier this week the in-laws of Local government Minister Faris Al Rawi were robbed after conducting business at a bank. This type of robbery of elderly persons , after conducting business an financial institutions has become all to common in the past few months.

All while the population becomes more and more afraid to venture out to execute everyday functions.

Many are asking for the COP to become more vocal, and to reassure the population that the TTPS is up to the task and in control of enforcing the laws in the country.
