Busy weekend for cops as they arrest 19 persons, seize 2 guns and recover stolen car

Two firearms and a quantity of ammunition were seized, one vehicle reported stolen was recovered and 19 persons were arrested as police continued to conduct exercises over the weekend.

Officers on mobile patrol around 9:30 pm yesterday, were forced to pursue a silver Nissan B14 after the driver breached a red traffic light at the intersection of the Priority Bus Route and Sixth Avenue, Barataria.

The pursuit eventually ended along Ninth Avenue, Barataria where the officers approached the vehicle. One occupant fled and escaped while the other occupant was searched. One Glock pistol with a magazine loaded with 18 rounds of nine-millimetre ammunition was allegedly found tucked in the right side of the waist of his pants.

Another magazine containing 17 rounds of nine-millimetre ammunition was also allegedly found in his front watch pocket. A search of the vehicle was then conducted and one Glock pistol with an extended magazine containing 18 rounds of nine-millimetre ammunition was allegedly found on the left side on the floor of the rear seat.

The 26-year-old was arrested for Possession of Firearm for the Purpose of Trafficking and Possession of Ammunition. Enquiries are continuing.
Officers of the Pinto Police Post recovered a vehicle around 3:40 a.m. today at Sesame Street, Mary D Road, Pinto Road Arima. It had been reported stolen yesterday from the driveway of a Chaguanas resident.

Meanwhile, in an effort to keep roadway users safe, officers conducted DUI exercises across various Divisions.

Six people were arrested and charged for being found over the limit in the Port of Spain Division.
Four persons were arrested for Driving Under the Influence early this morning during a road check exercise along Malabar Extension Road. An Arima woman was also arrested for driving without a Driver’s Permit and Certificate of Insurance during the exercise.

An overnight roving road check exercise conducted in the Manzanilla and Biche Districts resulted in two men being arrested and charged for Driving Under the Influence. Both are expected to appear virtually at the Sangre Grande Magistrates’ Court on October 16, 2023. A third man, also arrested during the exercise, is expected to appear virtually at the Rio Claro Magistrates’ Court tomorrow after he was charged for Obscene Language.

Officers of the Inter-Agency Task Force also arrested and charged a 47-year-old man for Driving Under the Influence while conducting a mobile patrol yesterday morning.

Another early morning exercise today conducted in the Area South of the Central Division led to the arrest of a 37-year-old Chase Village man for Driving Under the Influence.

Meanwhile, another 37-year-old man is assisting officers in relation to breaking enquiries in the St. Augustine area, while two Sangre Grande men are also assisting police with regard to a report of Robbery with Violence. Investigations are ongoing.
