A man liming with friends in the Diego Martin area on Tuesday evening was shot dead and a 4-year-old boy wounded, after the child was hit by a stray bullet.
Police said Shaquille Williams, 29, was liming with friends and family on Gilkes Street, La Puerta, around 6.40 pm when he was confronted by two gunmen who shot him in his left thigh and hip.
Williams ran a short distance away onto Louis Street, but was cornered as he ran into a yard and was shot again.
The gunmen ran back in the direction they came from but were confronted by a policeman who shot at the gunmen.
The officer missed as the killers ran through a nearby street.
In the melee, a boy was also wounded. He was taken to the St James Hospital by residents and transferred to another health facility.
He remained in stable condition as of Wednesday morning.
Crime scene investigators visited the scene and found seven spent 9 mm shells, a pair of gloves and a black ski mask.
