Usher to receive Lifetime Achievement Award at 2024 BET Awards

Usher is set to be honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award at this year’s BET Awards.

Announcing the news on Instagram on Thursday (May 30), the network wrote: “We got a confession. U-S-H-E-R is this year’s LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT HONOREE at the #BETAwards!

“We’ve watched this icon give us LEGENDARY moments on our stage. Now it’s time for us to return the favor and give him his flowers at #CulturesBiggestNight!”

Previous recipients of the award include Diddy, Busta Rhymes, Queen Latifah and Mary J. Blige.

The R&B icon is also nominated for four BET Awards at this year’s ceremony, including Album of the Year (Coming Home, Best Male R&B/Pop Artist and Best Collaboration (“Good Good” with 21 Savage and Summer Walker).

Adding to this trophy haul, it has also been revealed that Usher will receive the ASCAP Voice of the Culture Award next month.

The award is given to ASCAP members who “have had a major influence on music and culture” and “recognizes their success as creators and changemakers,” according to a press release.

The singer will be presented with the award at a party in Los Angeles on June 27 celebrating the top R&B and soul music songwriters and publishers.

These honors add to what’s already been a wildly successful year for Usher, who has headlined the Super Bowl, closed out a 100-show Las Vegas residency and released his ninth album.

His Super Bowl halftime show quickly became the most watched of all time, drawing 123.4 million viewers, according to Billboard.

It topped even Dr. Dre‘s star-studded 2022 performance which boasted appearances from Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Kendrick Lamar, Mary J. Blige and 50 Cent, as well as Rihanna‘s 2023 show where she revealed that she was pregnant with her second child.

Usher also took home two awards — Entertainer of the Year and the President’s Award — at the NAACP Image Awards in March, where he took the opportunity to thank the women in his life for supporting his dreams.

“They say behind or beside or with every strong man is a stronger woman, and for that I thank my mother and I thank my beautiful wife Jennifer for holding me down,” he said.
