UNC wants response from EBC over irregularities in Arima Northeast

The United National Congress has written to Chief Elections Officer, Mrs. Fern Narcis-Scope, to answer serious questions about significant irregularities in the Arima Northeast recount.

They are demanding a response by 4pm today, as the party awaits legal advice from their legal team to file an election petition.

The UNC said it will not hesitate to do all within its power to fight for free, fair and transparent elections in Trinidad and Tobago.

After the close of the polls on August 14th the counts determined that there was a tie between the UNC and the PNM, which each candidate receiving 623 votes each.

On August 17th, a recount was performed and UNC’s candidate came out the victor by one more vote.

However, on the request of the PNM, another recount was done days later, which saw their candidate win by two more votes.

The UNC said they will not allow any corruption, political bias and political agendas to destroy our democracy.
