PNM choose Autly Granthume and Anderson Nanan to contest by-election

Autly Granthume and Anderson Nanan have been selected by the People’s National Movement (PNM) to contest the Lengua/Indian Walk and Quinan/Morne Diablo seats respectively in the June 17 by-election.

Granthume, a reverend, previously contested the Lengua/Indian Walk seat in the August 2023 Local Government elections, with preliminary results showing he won with 1,430 votes to UNC candidate Nicole Gopaul’s 1,425 votes. However, the UNC challenged those results and after a series of recounts, ties, fresh elections were declared by the Election and Boundaries Commission.

Nanan, a manager in the Opposition-controlled Penal Debe Regional Corporation, has been recommended by the PNM Screening Committee to contest the by-election for the Quinam/Morne Diablo seat.

Nanan and Lengua/Indian Walk nominee Granthume got the nod from the Screening Committee at the Balisier House in Port-of-Spain on Thursday.

General secretary Foster Cummings confirmed that a special meeting of the central executive will be convened on Monday to consider and approve the recommendations of the Screening Committee.
