PM shuts down Kamla’s call for International Observers for local elections

With a short, but resounding NO! Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley said he will not be inviting international observers to oversee the upcoming Local Government Elections.

Rowley made the comment this morning, while speaking at a Breakfast with the Prime Minister function hosted by the PNM this morning at the Hilton.

He was at the time responding to the written request from the Opposition Leader, Kamla Persad-Bissessar, who said she wanted international observers for the local elections as the United National Congress does not trust the government with that process.

Dr Rowley said the PNM’s record is without blemish and when they call elections, the party will stand by its record.

He said the UNC is already doing a good job of attempting to undermine the election.

A bill which seeks to validate the work of councillors and aldermen between December 2nd, 2022 and May 18th, 2023 will go to the Senate this afternoon, after being passed in the Lower House on Monday.
