Persad-Bissessar calls on nation to stand hand-to-hand with destitute families

Opposition Leader, Kamla Persad-Bissessar has extended greetings to all of Trinidad and Tobago at this Christmas time.

In her Christmas Message to the nation, she wished that everyone becomes imbued with the wonderful spirit of Christmas and its timeless message of joy, unity, and fellowship.

“Whatever our respective religious affiliations, Christmas is universally appealing, because of its eternal and solemn significance and the atmosphere of affection it fosters,” she added.

Persad-Bissessar said: “Christmas 2023 has met Trinidad and Tobago, and, indeed, the entire world, with challenging circumstances, and that must be a strong motivation to aspire for peace on earth and goodwill for all collectively.”

“Along with religious devotion, Christmas is also a time of thoughtful giving. I urge society to reach out selflessly to the dispossessed, especially children without the yuletide cheer.
At this time, I recall Nat “King” Cole’s enduring seasonal lyrics: “He is the little boy that Santa Claus forgot/And goodness knows, he didn’t want a lot.”

She added that regrettably, there are children among us who are without the traditional goodies of Christmas and are, therefore, deprived of the season’s unmatched merriment and magic.

“I ask that we stand heart-to-heart and hand-to-hand with destitute families.
I equally thank and congratulate the many compatriots whose humanitarian outreaches have brought delight and optimism to the less fortunate.”

“Generally, I wish that Christmas fills us all with consummate enjoyment and great blessings, and creates lasting memories” – Persad-Bissesar.
