Percentage To Be Decided Upon On FX Allocation To Small And Medium Sized Enterprises

Government is still finalising details as to what percentage of additional foreign exchange when allocated to the system by the Central Bank will go towards small and medium sized enterprises.

At present the Central Bank in providing FX to commercial banks has asked for priority to be given to sectors such as trade, education and medical expenses.

However, Minister of Finance, Colm Imbert, told reporters at  a news briefing Wednesday afternoon that no decision has been made as yet concerning what percentage of the eventually disbursement by the Central Bank  will go towards small and medium sized enterprises.

Government has already indicated it intends to develop steps to increase the repatriation of foreign exchange earned overseas by local and foreign businesses operating in Trinidad and Tobago, adding this is one of the ways to increased local supply of foreign exchange.
