Air Quality level in POS registers as ‘Unhealthy”

The Environmental Management Authority (EMA) has said the current “Air Quality” level has registered as unhealthy on the Air Quality Index (AQI) at the EMA’s Monitoring Station in Port-of-Spain at 10 am.

The increase in Particulate Matter (PM) is attributed to Saharan dust and the level is 159. Everyone, in particular, sensitive groups including older adults, children, individuals with heart or lung disease, respiratory ailments and allergies are strongly advised to avoid prolonged or heavy exertion.

The AQI levels at the Monitoring Stations at Arima, Mayaro, Pt Lisas, San Fernando and Toco range between 69 to 93, which represent moderate air quality.
