PM Rowley Reflects On Life And Contribution Of Professor Selwyn Ryan

Prime Minister, Dr Keith Rowley, reflected on the life and accomplishments of political scientist, writer and pollster Professor Selwyn Ryan.

Professor Ryan passed away at his home last weekend at the age of 86.

Speaking at the funeral service at St Finbars Roman Catholic Church in Diego Martin on Friday, Dr Rowley reviewed the career of Professor Ryan, highlighting the significance and impact of his contribution to national development.

Professor Ryan, among his many accomplishments, lectured at York University in Toronto, the University of Ghana in Accra, and Makerere University in Uganda.

He was also Director of the UWI’s Institute of Social and Economic Research.

The Chaconia Medal Gold was bestowed to Professor Ryan for his contribution to higher education in 2012.

Dr Rowley also reflected on Professor Ryan’s confidence to comment on several issues such as religion, race and class basing his views on research he would have done.
