6 Arrested, Officers Seize a Firearm and Drugs in Northern Division

Six persons are held and a firearm and drugs seized.

On June 17th  2024, a  party of officers were on mobile patrol when they responded to a report of Robbery at an establishment located at O’meara Road, Arima.

The officers, based on the wireless transmission, intercepted a white Nissan Qashqai which was proceeding in a westerly direction along the Churchill Roosevelt Highway.

Upon reaching the vicinity of the Piarco traffic lights, the vehicle had crashed into two other vehicles proceeding in the same direction.

Whilst approaching the vehicle, the officers observed two men exiting the vehicle, one of which ran in a southerly direction holding an
object resembling a firearm in his hand.

The officers called out to the suspect who kept running and threw the item over a wall on the western side of the roadway.

A search of the area was conducted and a firearm was found.

A further search led to the discovery of another suspect with two other suspects in the vehicle.

The suspects were all taken into custody and the illegal firearm secured.

Checks of the vehicle revealed it was stolen, and the vehicle was taken to the police station.

Meanwhile officers, while conducting a roving exercise in Area North of the division issued fixed penalty notices for Failing to
wear seatbelt and retrieved a stolen vehicle, a Nissan Tiida in Arima.

Additionally, a black plastic bag with 527 grams of marijuana was found in a brick wall of a concrete structure in the same vicinity.

The party of officers then took possession of same.

Finally, two men ages 30 and 39 of Maloney are assisting police with enquiries relative to House Breaking and Larceny.

The men were arrested during anti-crime exercises in Maloney.
