Young confirms 3 TT minors denied boarding Galleons Passage in SVG

National Security Minister Stuart Young has confirmed that three T&T minors, who were trying to leave St Vincent on the Galleons Passage on Wednesday evening, were prevented from doing so by Immigration officials.

A Newsday report said the children, between the ages of 6 and 17, were prevented from boarding the vessel after concerns were raised about lack of arrangements for parental supervision, while they were in state quarantine in Trinidad.

Minister Young acknowledged “The Government could not approve minors with no prior arrangements being in place to be brought to TT. The questions were asked as to where were the parents or guardians of these minors and no satisfactory responses were provided.
“It would have been irresponsible to permit minors onto a vessel, with no supervision, and further, no arrangements in place in Trinidad for them to be received by parents or guardians on arrival.”
