The world continues to feel the aftermath of the shock left by the untimely passing of celebrated American rapper DMX.
A “Celebration of Life Memorial” was held in Brooklyn on Saturday, attended by friends, family, and fellow collaborators.
A red casket carrying DMX sat atop of a monster truck, adorned with the words “Long Live DMX” on the side; a reminder that despite his passing, his music will continue to live on throughout our lives.
The truck played a tribute of iconic DMX songs as it travelled from Yonkers to the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, attracting the attention of many fans who took time out of their day to line the streets and pay their respects.
Clearly, this was a hugely emotional day for people close to DMX, and this sombre mood was accompanied by members of Kanye West’s Sunday Service choir singing hymns throughout the 90-minute service.
Kanye has found other ways to pay his respects to DMX, orchestrating a collaboration with Balenciaga to honour the life of DMX. The right sleeve has his date of birth written, whilst the left has his date of death; another way in which the life of DMX will be immortalised.
All proceeds from the shirt will go to the late rapper’s family, ensuring that this collaboration is purely altruistic.
