Woman sets house afire, burns self

A customs officer from St. Barbs is in critical condition today after sustaining burns of up to 80% of her body.

Reports indicate that the 28-year-old woman set fire to the home of a 39-year-old man. The two were at the Arima home of the man on Sunday afternoon when they got into an argument. The woman left the room and returned with a bottle which she emptied in the room. The man smelled gasoline and then saw the room ablaze.

Fire Officers from the Arima Fire Station responded to the fire. The man and woman were taken to the Arima Health Facility. The police officers also arrived on the scene.

The two victims were taken to the Arima Health Facility, where they were treated. The man suffered burns to his left side shoulder, both hands, nose and back of his neck. He was transferred to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex where he is listed in a stable and satisfactory condition.

The woman is still warded.

Investigations are continuing.
