Woman chops relative while defending her mother in domestic assault

Gasparillo police have detained a 20-year-old woman after she chopped off a man’s hand while defending a female relative in a domestic violent incident in Barrackpore yesterday.

Around 3:30pm on Friday, the young woman was at her home at Oropouche South Trace, when she heard her mother Kamla Lal screaming.

When she ran out, she saw her male relative beating Lal with an iron chair.
Lal was on the ground bleeding from her head.

The young woman shouted at the man to stop, and when he refused, she ran into the house and returned with a cutlass.

She again pleaded with the relative to stop hitting her mother. However, he turned to hit her with the chair and it was then the woman chopped him on the arms, severing his left hand from the wrist.

Both relatives were taken for medical treatment, but the man is still warded at the San Fernando General Hospital. Lal sought treatment at the Princes Town Hospital and is now at home.
