WiPay to set Guinness World Record by May 16

The call to re-build the economy in light of tough economic changes and the global pandemic was once again made by members of the business community and those at the forefront of Digital transformation.

This call was made by Chief Executive Officer of Beacon Insurance, Gerald Hadeed.

Hadeed who spoke at the launch of WiPay’s record-breaking eCommerce stores for Trinidad’s small and micro-enterprises on Monday, stressed on the importance for the need to ensure that service is at the tip of the fingers of consumers in T&T.

At least 1,000 small business owners across the Caribbean will be given their free e-commerce website to help boost their marketing and payment solutions via WiPay on May 16th.

He said entrepreneurship and small and micro-enterprises can be a front runner with oil and gas; which can in turn help boost the economy.

WiPay and WiShops were created to give several business owners a digital platform where customers can have easy access to goods and services.

WiShops is an all-In one e-commerce solution for businesses that enables creative persons to build their online store in minutes and accept payments on their website.

WiShops offers over 800 store templates and comes with WiPay’s payment gateway already built in.

Meanwhile Member of Parliament for Point Fortin Kennedy Richards reiterated the importance of getting T&T known on a global market.

Also gloating on the way forward with the initiative, was Karrian Hepburn-Malcolm of the Unit Trust – who said that she saw an urgent need for Trinidad and Tobago to be on board with WiShops and E-commerce and the chance to enable businesses to foster digitalization.

Hepburn-Malcolm said the UTC has been doing a number of workshops with small and micro-enterprise owners teaching them how to properly go digital.

This venture set out by WiPay is being assisted by several sponsors and its leaders such as the Chief Executive Officer of the American Chamber of Commerce TT (AMCHAM), Nirad Tewarie who was also present at the launch on Monday.

WiPay is aiming to set a new world record for the Guinness World Records 2021 for having 1,000 free websites and 1,000 Medium Enterprises by May 16, 2021.

This goal is also going to be attempted by WiPay Jamaica where they will set out to have the ‘most users in a web development hangout’.
