WEATHER UPDATE: Yellow level alert

The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS) has issued a Riverine Flood Alert #1 – Yellow Level Alert.

During this time, light to moderate rainfall is expected to continue intermittently over the next several hours.

Landslides/landslips are possible in areas so prone. While the main river courses remain contained at this time, smaller rivers and/or tributaries can reach maximum capacity leading to flooding in surrounding areas.

Some areas in south Trinidad are already inundated due to localized ponding and this may be further exacerbated at high tide.

Meanwhile, certain areas in Siparia, Erin Road in the vicinity of Powergen, Siparia, Lowkie Trace and Batchiya Village, Penal have been flooded out.

Flooding has also been reported in some areas in San Francique, Oropouche River, Jones Village, Barracpore, Moruga and parts of Buen Intento.

The Alert will remain in effect until 2:00 pm tomorrow, Thursday 12th December.
