The beaches and rivers may be closed for the next few weeks and with good reason.
An eyewitness submitted a video that showed garbage floating in the sea following Thursday’s torrential rains.
In the 1 minute, 14-second video items such as empty styrofoam containers, plastic bags, and even a fan cover were spotted among the debris.
Some fishermen can also be seen carefully manoeuvring a boat around the garbage to prevent the debris from clogging the boat’s propeller.
Although the rains may have brought the garbage down from the hills, there have been calls for stricter littering measures as many beachgoers leave their rubbish on the shores, an exercise that is heavily practiced down the islands where people often go to party or spend the weekend.
