WASA water treatment plants in North Trinidad impacted by overnight rainfall

The Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) says overnight rainfall impacted several of their surface water treatment facilities in North Trinidad.

An adverse weather alert is currently in effect.

WASA said the conditions led to flooded river conditions and high turbidity, which have resulted in clogged intake screens at the Guanapo, Aripo, Quare and McDavid Intake facilities in North West Trinidad.

The facilities provide the water supply to parts of Arima, Mt Pleasant, Santa Rosa, Mt Pleasant, Valencia, Lopinot and Surrey Village.

In North East Trinidad, the Blanchisseuse, La Fillette and Las Cuevas facilities have been impacted, affecting the supply to those communities.

WASA said it’s working to return these facilities to service as soon as possible.
