WASA shutting down North Oropouche Water Treatment plant to fix leak

The Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) is advising customers in parts of north-east Trinidad served by the North Oropouche Water Treatment Plant, that a leak has been discovered on the 42 inch transmission pipeline off the Plant located in the cross-country area of Valencia (in the vicinity of Tattoo Trace).

The leak, which is located in a different area to those repaired recently, also appears to have resulted from the erosion and land slippage.

The Authority is currently mobilising equipment and materials to commence repair works which will require operations at the North Oropouche Plant to be stopped.

Due to the location and the nature of the works required, it is expected that the shutdown will last from 6:00pm on Saturday 3rd September to 12:00 midnight on Sunday 4th September, 2022.

Customers in the affected areas are advised to manage use of their stored water efficiently, particularly over the period of this disruption.

Customers are also advised that it may take up to forty eight (48) hours for the service to normalize to some affected areas in accordance with established water supply schedules, following the completion of these repairs.

WASA says that a limited truck-borne water service will be available upon request.
