WASA says the Point Fortin Desalination Plant has been restarted

The Water and Sewerage Authority is advising customers in parts of Point Fortin and La Brea, served by the Point Fortin Desalination Plant the facility was restarted at approximately 2:00 p.m. yesterday.

WASA says plant production is projected to be at full capacity of 5.6 million gallons per day by midnight tonight and the scheduled pipe borne water supply to affected customers is expected to normalize in 24 hours thereafter.

This followed inspection of the underground electrical cable system at the facility, by Seven Seas Water (Trinidad) Unlimited, which owns and operates the Point Fortin Desalination Plant.

In a media release this afternoon, the utility said the cable system flooded after the failure of a water tank at the Heritage Petroleum, Point Fortin Compound on Sunday.
