WASA On Course To Complete Shutdown Works At Caroni Water Treatment Plant By Noon Today

The Water and Sewage Authority says the utility remains on course to complete the full schedule of works associated with its planned shutdown of the Caroni Water Treatment Plant by noon today Sunday August 11th,2024.

WASA explains at 5:00 p.m. Saturday, works were 80% completed and progressing as scheduled.

Several key jobs are already completed including the installation of a new transformer at the intake of the Caroni Plant, as well as the installation of valves and meters at several locations along the North and South transmission/ distribution system.

WASA says the inclement weather Saturday caused a delay in the progress of works to install a new bulk meter at the El Socorro Booster Station.

Minister of Public Utilities, Marvin Gonzales, along with WASA Deputy Chairman, Alston Fournillier and other members of the Executive Management Team, visited various jobsites to view the progress of the works.

These included at El Socorro, Bamboo, and Piarco.

Following the restart of the Plant, the supply to most affected areas is expected to be restored over a 24 – 48-hour period, in accordance with established supply schedules.

However, some customers at the extremities of the distribution system, particularly at the furthest areas in South Trinidad, may experience longer delays in having their service restored.

The Authority also reminds affected customers a truck borne service can be requested through the following self-service options:

Use of the mobile WASA Services App which can be downloaded for Android mobile customers from the Play Store or iPhone mobile customers from the Apple store; or Use of the Customer Portal available on the Authority’s website: www.wasa.gov.tt.
