Story by Dennis James
Extremely unfortunate is how the Water and Sewage Authority describes a planned protest by some members of Upper Cunapo Road, Sangre Grande in relation to the provision a pipe borne water supply,.
WASA claims it is now apparent attempts are being made to agitate communities to engage in protest action, bypassing dialogue and civility in the process.
The utility notes further information coming to the Authority suggests some media elements are being drawn into this fray, and is hoping the fourth estate (the media), will remain above such ignoble activity.
It explains not only has this community received a pipe borne supply on August 16th 2024, but will also receive another supply August 17th to August 18th .
WASA says the next supply to that community will be on the evening of Wednesday 21st, overnight, to Thursday 22nd August 2024, as per established schedule.
The community in question is located at the extremities of the North Oropouche pipeline system, and challenges to the system brought on by harsh dry season conditions and climate change have negatively impacted pressures to the area.
However, the Authority is committed to and have been working with the community and its representatives to ensure that their needs are met.
WASA says it has demonstrated a willingness to engage in constant and meaningful dialogue with all stakeholders and will continue to do so.
The transformation of the Authority requires an all-hands-on deck approach.
The time to join in WASA’s transformation is now, and it requires a respectful, disciplined and truthful engagement by all parties, with the sole purpose being a reliable and sustainable water supply.
